Today we got up\ early, um, Julia got up really early, I got up regular time, got the car packed up pretty painless, coffee from @AnchorIslandCoffee, on the road by 7:20, a very long drive, the morning was grey, Kansas is an impossibly boring stare, the sun poked out, stopped for KFC, gas, randomness, the border to Colorado came and went, south Colorado is a fucking trip, it got cloudy again, the temperature dropped 15 degrees, it rained a little, it cleared up again, as we approached the range, we needed gas again desperately as we drove across C10, an impossibly straight and barren road, we saw like no cars for hours, started running out of gas before coming off C10 and reached Walsenburg, the 7-11 wouldn’t take our credit card, so I kept going to La Veta, and then I fuck you not it started to sleet and snow and we headed over the mountain pass and it was near blizzard like, man it was terrifying to me, not JW so much, and up and over and down the scared mountain to Alamosa the first stop. I;m sure the local mountains are gorgeous, we just couldn’t;t see anything through the clouds and snow.
Got the Hilton and unwound a bit before heading out to diner at the Friars Fork, a very cute Italian place in an old church. The food was delicious and the service was awesome, we had apps and a salad and the Osso BUcco Lamb Shank.
After diner we went a few blocks to a local brewery for a flight of beers, the Cola beer and the Kolsch were top two followed by the nitro stout.
Tomorrow a 3.5 hour drive to Mesa Verde, that pretty much the whole day, so see you then.
