We another 8 hours of sleep staying on cst is making this trip the most sleep I’ve gotten in years, got up and it was a lovely day in Cortez, JW of course up an hour before me, I packed up the stuff and headed to the car while JW headed to the buffet. I got some gas and picked her up and headed to the Wild Edge which aside from having lovely beer menu, is also a morning coffee joint. Chris, the bartender, was also Chris the barista and he served us up a couple americanos lickity split.
The road from Cortez to Page was a fantastic journey through high deserts and mesas and red rocks and straight as shit roads, and we reached the town of Kayenta, where there was a giant sign for Monument Valley. Now originally we were supposed to go to MOnument Valley, but I decided to head straight to Page because I had liquor screening at 1 CST and wanted to make sure we got there on time. It was very early and it seemed, hey, lets go to Monument Valley, and away we went.
Let me tell you friends, JW and I have driven all over the craziest roads in Greece, including the dirt road to Balos beach, which is a 1 lane dirt road with. No guard rails and 200 ft drops down to ocean below. We fucking adventurers for sure. But let me tell you, when we got the Navajo Monument Valley road, we were a bit appalled that something that’s been here since the 50s had a red dirt road, filled with rocks and giant holes, I would have turned around to the ticket window and asked for my money back. As it turns out, we were more than prepared for this trek, it was.a 17 mile loop, but we were under the gun, stopped at a few of the pull off spots, got the most amazing pictures and turned around got the fuck out of there.
My liquor interview was in an hour, and cell phone reception was terrible so we stayed in Kayenta and have some lunch at the Blue Coffee Pot, which turned out to be an excellent Navajo diner, and I had an amazing mutton and fry bread burrito and my liquor interview went off without a stitch. We got back on the road and head to Page with no time to spare.
So I have to say I’m up for a city job, was called back for a second interview, and that interview was today at 4 pm CST. So we are under the impression that Arizona, like Colorado is also in the MST. So when we arrived in Page, and our phones showed it was 1:30 we assumed we had plenty of time to fuck off. First stop was the Damn overlook, which conveniently happened to be located just below our hotel. The Powell Damn was pretty fucking cool, and we still couldn’t check into our hotel for some stupid reason
We went back to the hotel and tried checking in again when JW got a message from a student who had a 4 pm meeting telling her that meeting was in 10 minutes. JW looked at me and said time is fucking weird here, and I assured her that AZ was in MST, and we googled it and found out I was wrong, and that I had 10 minutes until my job interview. So we got on the Wi-Fi post haste and some asshat was vacuuming the lobby, so I took her laptop outside and hooked it up and had a fucking amazing job interview, news at 11.
We sat in the lobby another 1/2 and hour before we got to check in early, and then I made the call to head to HorseShow bend which was 10 minutes from the hotel. It was then we realized how completely fucking crowded this area was, a line of people going down the path towards the lookout, a line of people coming out. It’s fucking notes that we thought this time of year, after spring break that this place would be empty, but apparently the rest of the world does spring break the first week of April. Fucking nuts. The view at the lookout was packed with selfy fuckers but we still managed to get some sweet shots.
We then drove into page and went the Damn Bar for a drink, it was fair.
Afterwards we drove across the damn to some Lake Powell lookout areas, and got some picts. It was very evident how low the lake is, like crazy low.
Ending the sight seeing, we headed to Fiesta Mexican, a place recommended by my baby sister who at here once and said it was great. It was pretty good and we can attest.
After dinner, we headed to the Grand Canyon Brewery and had 8 tastes of their finest. None of them were great, but a few were pretty good. We were also informed by Mitch, that North Rim was closed until May, which is what we had planned for tomorrow. Mitch suggested Zion, which is 1.5 hours away, but 5 hours away from our hotel. Thanks Mitch! I however made the schedule change to South Rim, 2.5 hours away and that solves that shit.
We're now living 2 hours in the future, updates will start to come at a dizzy pace.
