Day 1/2 in the books

Started the adventure at 6 am on Wednesday and it is now 8;13 pm Thursday in beautiful Agios Nicholas Crete.  We have over those many hours taken a lyft to the airport, flew to Chicago, sat around for 6 hours in the International wing of O'Hare, which has absolutely nothing to do in it, flew to London, where JW got harassed by a customs guy because of her liquid content, and almost got detained, but i knew nothing of this as I went through no problems and ran to grab her a coffee.  We eventually found each other, and she was in tears about it, and we were both so very tired, and not thinking clearly, but we got it all fixed, and got to our flight to Athens, where i took about an hour of sleep.  Once we arrived in Athens, we were told we had to leave the airport and go back through luggage inspections, which was another huge drag, but made it through, and hopped on our flight to Crete, where apparently the President of Greece was riding 3 rows behind us.  He looked so very familiar to me, I was certain he was someone famous, and then someone told us who he was, and I was like, yea, that guy.  When we arrived at the Heraklion airport, there was a large throng of reporters, etc, waiting to talk to him, but we were shuffled along, and that wonderful smell of Crete crept into our noses, and we went to get our car at the always friend rental place, and it was a Prius!  how cool!  we got it in and rolled down the windows and headed out on the highway to Agios Nicholas, and our hotel Santa Marina.  We both took a shower and freshened up before walking down to the heart of the city and our favorite restaurant, Paradosiako, where we feasted on the most amazing grilled mushrooms, zucchini croquettes and grilled sardines.  In America this meal would have cost you 100 bucks, but here in Greece, 30 bucks with a tip, including free dessert and RAKI, the elixir of life.  Afterwards we stumbled back to our room and took a well deserved sleep.
Tomorrow, adventure awaits!
