Day 3 - Chasing Waterfalls

Hello!
Today we are in Agios Nicholas, a lovely town where we spent our first night in Greece back in 2013.  We have very fond memories of the city, and this is the 3rd time we have been here.
So today we got up at our usual crack of dawn, though I seriously did not want to get out of bed, but did manage it, and ran down to the bakery below our balcony window to grab everyone coffees, and while there also a very large bag of Greek cookies, which will hopefully be eatin on our many road adventures on this magnificent island.  Once Chris and Heather arrive on Saturday evening, I'm sure they'll help us as well.

So we hopped in the trustee Prius, and drove east on the new road, now finished between Agios & Sitia.  It was still under construction when we were here in 2017, so it was progress to us.  We were looking for a particular road, and found it in the tiny city of Exo Mouliana.  The road was very small, and our object lay at the bottom of a very scary, tiny 1/2 a lane road, that lead down to the Richtis Beach, where we will hike up the Richtis Gorge trail to the waterfall that is a few miles away.

Let me tell you it was amazing, since we started at the bottom and not the top, we were the only ones on the trail, and when we arrived at the waterfall, we had the whole place to ourselves.  Breathtaking!

We then hiked back down the trail and gazed at the waves crashing on the beach.  It was at this time another car arrived and we knew it was time to go.  So up the crazy ass road we went, hoping around each turn another car would not be coming, and arrived back on the highway and continued East.

From there we drove straight to Sitia, the 4th largest town on the island and a place we stayed on our trip in 2017.  There was a minoan site in the middle of town we missed last time because it was closed, so up a very narrow road, parking precariously close to a wall because there was no parking, and we hiked up a little hill and again, had the entire site to ourselves.  It was ancient, 2500 BC, and had a gorgeous view of the city below us.  At one point JW thought she'd found a lizard, but it was dead.

After the site, we decided to have lunch at the place we'd eaten at last time here with the amazing olives, but it was closed for lunch, so ate at the place next to it, and it was a fine meal.

After lunch, we headed East again to the beautiful monastary of Moni Toplou, but since we'd already seen it, we headed straight for the wine tasting room, in a beautifully modern building a few meters away.  We were greeted by the wonderful british woman who was working in 2017, and had a lovely chat, while we sipped this and that and made purchases to last us for the next 2 years.  They even had their wine in a bag, which of course is safer to transport than bottles, so we got that too!

From Moni Toplou it was a short hop to the world famous Vai Beach, which we skipped last time because i'd heard it was very commercial and crowded, which it was, but being later in the day, I think a lot of the people we leaving.  It was also very windy and the water pretty cold, which kept people away as well.  We wandered around and took pictures and then took a quick piss and back in the car and drove straight back to the hotel.

Paradosioko for dinner again, how did you guess.
