From here to Eternity

One of the best sleeps I:ve had one day 1 in Greece, got up at a decent hour and went out for coffees.  Found place near the hotel, and walked by a few clubs in the area that were still open from the night before.  Thessaloniki is a fucking party town for sure.

Got the coffee back to JW ad waited around for her to wake up, and then off on our first adventure, the 1 hour drive on the toll road to the ancient site of Dion, supposedly in the shadow of Mount Olypos but the damn thing was covered in clouds, the gods were surely hiding from us.  We spend a very long time wandering around the site along with a few bus loads of teenagers and retirees.  The whole place was so very green and wet.  It was the opposite of every trip that starts on the dry island of Crete for sure.

After leaving Dion we headed towards Vergina on the smallest funnest roads of all time.  It was very reminiscent of driving on Crete.  We arrived in Vergina and had a lovely lunch at the only place that wasn’t full of tourists.  The two men running the place were aces, and we had a very lovely lite lunch.

We walked down to the royal tombs, which were all inside a giant hill.  The amount of money they spend on the design of the place must have been staggering.  The had a picture of the original excavation, and they basically tore the hill down, put in this huge billion dollar thing and then covered it all back up.  I was not unimpressed, even though 15 bucks was a ad high for admission.  I think we might have spent half an hour in the place as opposed to the 8 bucks we spent for 2 hours at Dion.  Nevertheless it was a neat experience and we left mostly satisfied.

We headed back on the road to stop 3, the waterfalls of Edessa.  By now our phones were dieing and we had realized earlier that the cigarette plug in the car didn’t work.  I brought a car charger for the trip which was useless, and dieing phones are bad when using gps to drive around very very rural Greece.  I thought I could just follow signs but at one put they disappeared and were were lost, so had to turn on one of the 10$# phones to get our bearings and would up in lovely Edessa perched on top of a plateau and it;s beautiful waterfalls.

After Edessa, it wasn't far to another large site, Pella.  Now Pella was not on the list of things to do, but we saw a sign for Pella so to Pella we went.  There we were sad to discover that most of the site was covered in 5 foot high grass.  for miles around, mostly, all you could see was grass.  it was fine, but, you know.

After Pella we went back to Thessaloniki for dinner.  We walked around a bit and took in the sites before settling for a nice little place that had some delicious food.  and we ate it, walked a bit around, had a drink at an Irish Pub, and then called it a night.
