I have a plan, stick to the plan

Today everything that should have gone right on the previous two days and didn’t actually went exactly as planned.  You can check my trip planner and follow along if you want, as I recount this marvelous day.

First stop, the Harbour Bakery, which was closed yesterday, where we both had the best pasteries we have ever had in Greece.  Not the hard as shit stuff you get at your local coffee shop, these were warm and fresh and absolutely delicious.

Shortly after we got JW her coffee and away we went to the West/Northwest part of the island

First stop was a cut little beach town called Palaiokastritsa.  We drove through town as it started waking up and went straight through before we knew it.  On the other side of town was a monastery of some sort, so we stopped for a second before heading off.

Nearby the town was the castle Angelokastro.  Way the fuck up on the top of a hill, 1/2 the drive up was on a 1 Lane two way road.  The road ended at a parking lot for 7 cars and we got the last spot.  Up the treacherous mountainside we went and finally arrived at a real castle.

After the harrowing walk downhill, we proceeded along the coastline towards Agios Georgios and eventually the village of Afionas, where we had to park our car again and go on another harrowing pathway adventurer to the lookout of the Porto Timoni Beach.  Mind you, we do not go to beaches, we go to beach lookouts.  The view was spectacular and very reminiscent of the hike to the Balos Beach lookout on Crete.

We cautiously made our way back up the trail and into the car and on to our next spot.

On the northwest coast is a great place to see the Loggas beach and surround cliffs and it is called 7th Heaven Cafe, which is the name of a record store in Kansas City.  They also have.a glass skywalk that consists of one tiny glass square over the edge.  It was delightful and I had my second hamburger in Greece, and this one was huge, not terrible and 20 bucks.  Most expensive lunch of the trip.

We continues along the tiny roads and past hoards of old German lady hikers who loved to yell at us as we drove by.  The next stop was the seaside village of Sidari, where there are some peculariar rock formations that we saw on a video of Corfu while sitting at Tassos in KC.  We found a great parking spot and walked up the path and there it was.  Very impressive.

By now it was after 4:30 and we’d had a hell of a day, grand adventures and lots of hiking, so we took the road straight back to the hotel where we are currently waiting for dinner and hope that finally it won’t suck.

Good news, we won dinner tonight.  Place has been closed for 3 days because of a wedding!  Jesus!  Anyways, best meal on the island and now we’ll get packed up and ready to leave the island on a boat tomorrow.
