Slavery builds big houses

We had a bit of a plan this morning, including waking up and taking a trip to a plantation.  There was also breakfast, involving a very famous BearCat, which would up being the star of the show.  So we rolled out of bed and hopped in the car and headed down to BearCat, which turned out to be so amazing, we were told there would be lines, but on this Wednesday Morning, we walked right in, got a spot outside in their very large patio and had a delightful breakfast before taking on slavery for all mankind.

The drive to the Oak Alley Plantation was a bit of a haul, an hour away, they were working on the road, the speed limit sucked, but eventually we arrived in time for 10:45 tour of the big house, which was facilitating led by a young black man, who used “enslaved” as a word quite often during the tour.  I have never been to a plantation, but i have been to Arrow Rock, which I highly recommend for the Missouri types, and it is not as terrible as a plantation in the south, for fucking sure.

No pictures in the house, it was French and 200 years old, they shot Interview With the Vampire here, which is how we chose this over the other plantations on plantation row.  Sugar Cane was their crop the average life expectancy of the average slave was 17-30, they were forced to work at the age of 10 and they worked 10-18 hour days depending on the sunlight.

Catholics, and Christian, they were neither and it is a blight on America worse than the current orange baboon in charge right now.

We made the trip back to the hotel and everybody poops, before heading out on our Day Drinking adventure,   Though we found out a few places we wanted to check out were closed on Wednesday, so strange, we walked through the Garden District to Magazine street, which we traversed last night for quite a while and saw a lot of places closed that we wanted to check out.  Before long we were at the Parasol Bar and Grill, which had a lovely young tattooed bartender who we befriended.  I ordered cheese fries, shrimp po boy and crawdad balls which were delightful.  We discussed the gambling machines in every bar we’d been in so far, and how they were just outlawed in Missouri, which i agree with 100%.

After our late lunch we wanted through Irish Land or whatever it was called to the Anita Tap Room, which at 3 pm was totally dead and tried some of their brews.  The brewmeister walked in and i suggest coconut in every beers.  If you see it on the menu in the future, that was my idea.

From Abita it was a few blocks to our next destination, Miel Brewery, which turns out was infatuated with pickle sours.   Holy shit their entire menu looked like a prank on me.  If we had walked any further for this shit i would have run out in a huff.  As it turned out, the beers flights were only 4 beers, and they had 4 beers i wanted to try, and they were pretty good.  At the end we tried the hibiscus sour, which was terrible and the habanero sour which was fucking so bad that they should be closed forever.

We walked the 2 miles back from Miel, even though i offered JW a Lyft, her sandals are chafing and this happened in Greece and was not good.  She was a trouper and we made it back to St Charles Ave where we checked out a Whole Foods rip off store in the neighborhood before coming back to the room to chill before more drinks and dinner.

After a nap and chatting with momma Kinder, we headed over to the local wine bar for dinner.  Our friend Kate was not working, however Jacob and Josh were fine I guess.  I had the frog legs, and a big cheese meat platter and some gumbo and a fine time was had by all.  Tomorrow, more day drinking and a ghost tour!
