We had one goal today. That goal was a 3 hour road trip to see a big rock in the sea with a little village built on the side of it. We were supposed to go there in 2013 on our first trip, but because of the 3 hour road trip thing, actually 6 hours round trip, it was kiaboshed not once, but twice on another trip in 2019.
The island of Monemvasia was built a long time ago. It’s very old, I don’t have the facts, but its really old. From the quaint seaside village of Navplion it is 3 hours by major highway, and more than that on the gorgeous coast road. We literally had nothing planed all day except this trip. So which way do you think we went. I’ll wait.
Ok, yea, so we got up a little early, hopped in the car and got some delicious bakery stuff with coffee somewhere in the city from a sweet Greek lady, and then down the coastal road towards Leonids, and it was better than the PCH any damn day of the week. We have no photos to prove this, but you know, I would never lead you wrong.
After a certain period of time, a bunch of cars got on our ass, trying to jockey for position, it was a goddamn shit show and we were 10 km from Monemvasia, so what was the point, yet people would pass us and then sit there in front of us like they had just won a gold medal in the olympics. There was a giant mountain blocking our view, but I told JW as soon as we rounded that mountain, then Moenemvasia would be visible, but I was too busy with the tourist car jockeys to notice, and suddenly we were there, and all three cars in front of us went the wrong way, and we headed across the isthmus and parked on side of the road and walked on in
It was hot and I immediately started sweating, so I knew there was no way I could hike to the top. So we just explored in our own way, and then after exploring when to a sweet cafe in the middle of town for a salad and some dolmates that were fantastic.
2 hours after we arrived, back on the road we were going in the car, and before you knew it, we were lost again, but somehow made it on a different road and then a few hours later back to Navplion.
We took a walk around town, looking for gifts and then headed out to Mavros Gatos to see if our friend Evan was working and he was and it was wonderful seeing him, and then walked out to the city beach and around the walkway and back into town and had dinner at this rather special little place in the middle of town.
After dinner we went back to Mavros Gatos and had a few drinks and chatted up with Evan, and then said good night to him and good bye until next time and called it a night or something.
Enchanting. All of it
