final day in Napflion, we all got up a bit tardy, but well rested and said goodbye to this wonderful town. we headed east from Navplion to the ancient theatre at Epidavros, where JW and I had been on our first trip 2013. I was hopping to get there early and beat the rush, but there were a few people there already. No big deal, we got to enjoy it, and the medical center that was part of the site.
From there we went North and got on the superduperhighway towards Corinth. It was fairly easy to follow a few signs, and before we knew it, there we were. I had some crazy mental block about being here before, and only remembered the museum part, and forgot about the giant outdoor part, including the well maintained part of town that included the main street and thoroughfair. C&H were anxious to see the site because Jesus and Bible stuff, but after JW and I made it through, we had a seat and waiting for them to finish up.
Leaving the site was a bit of a challenge, but we finally made it back on the highway towards Athens. We were supposed to also stop and see the Corinth Canal, but the exit was not marked, and we flew right past it. No big deal I think.
At one point the toll road was funneled down to 2 lanes at one of the toll plaza's and we were like, WTF, it cost us at least 45 minutes waiting in the non-existant lanes. Once we got to the toll booths, there were policemen with drawn guns out looking in every car. now that was odd. We sort of followed the signs to Athens and then I made an executive desicion to stop for a sandwhich at one of the strange chain restaurants that we saw everywhere. I was really trying to get my wi-fi up and running so that i could get directions to our hotel. I have only driven in Athens once, and it was a fucking nightmare. I know generally where our hotel is, but getting there is another story. In the end, we followed signs and before we knew it were pulling up the wonderful hotel Atlos on Athinas Street, in the shadow of the Acropolis of Athens. We let the girls out with our luggage while Chris and I drove the car a few miles away to the rental place. Then we walked back through the Plaka area and back to our hotel in no time. Our travel agent Uli from Dolphin Hellas came by for rooftop drinks and everyone thanked her so much for all the work she did to make this vacation so effortless. We all took a little siesta before heading out for dinner in the Psiri at one of our favorites. Everyone was crabby and it wasn't the best experience, but we made it through the night.
The evening ended with drinks on the rooftop bar, and C&H made plans to go explore on their own tomorrow while JW & I were headed to first the Acropolis and then the National Museum.
