Lissos on a boat

we woke today in pain, like crippled old people, the joints and muscles abused on the 9 mile hike the day before were not happy.  we had planned a hike to the ancient town of Lissos which was just a few miles from the village, but there was no way this could happen.  so we arranged for a local boat, captained by captain yannis, an older man who was remarkably nice for this unarranged trip.  20 minutes by boat, as you gaze up at the sheltered cove that stretches up like a bowl hundreds of miles high, and the entire site just sits there with no fee or guide waiting for the advenurous to discover its secrets.  captain yannis docked on a large rock in the harbour and we scrambled off the boat and made our way inland.  the first site you see is a church, which was like many other tiny. hirches scattered across the island.  from there we headed right towards the ancient temple and part of a roman church that had a fresco floor laid out inside.  the first of the morning hikers from Sougia began arrive and they were french, so very nice and friendly.  julia was feeling bad so i explored the site even further, into the old ruins of housed perched on the sides of the mountain, and an old watch tower .  one pair of hikers were enjoying the cool waters near the small beach.  when next i looked up, captain yannis approached to pick us up for our return.  high above us on the top of the cliffs we could see other hikers making there way down into the site, and we realized we really missed out on not seeing it from that view.  we got aboard the tiny boat and headed back to town.  from there we packed up our bags and drive back over the twisty mountain roads until arriving back at chania and from there along the national road past rhethymnon and finally heraklion, and down to the port and the marin dream where we stayed on our previos trip to crete.  tommorrow we check out the museum and then drive to Malia Palace which we missed the first time we arrived.  the internet is great here so i'll start uploading pictures shortly
