we checked out of hotel olympic and headed back down the mountain to the highway to kalambaka. the road twisted through the mountains, which is becoming a habit on this trip, then down the mountain and on to a great plain, where the speeds picked up. one thing we learned about drivers in greece is that they go as fast as they want, they pass whenever they want, and nobody gives a shit. case in point, halfway down the road, a man is standing in the road becking us over to the side. its a cop and his partner. i'm like, oh no! but after checking my passport he just moved us along. no clue what that was about. we drove on until we reached the largish town of Trikala where we stopped for lunch at a very small souvlaki shop that had the best we've had so far. a short drive later and we could see the clifftop monasteries of meteora in the distance, and here we are.
tomorrow we check a couple out before hopping back on the highway and back to athens for our last night in greece. its really hard to believe at this point that its almost over. tuesday morning we fly home.
