treking the crazy mountains

this morning we said goodby to our crazy hotel and the macaw that wouldn't shut up and headed towards our next destination only stopping briefly for some yummy breakfast from sweet cookie, and a stop at the tyrinns site that we somehow missed yesterday.

then it was off on the wrong road and the finally back on the highway where the speed limit was 130kph, which was faster than our car went.  finally we arrived at sparta, only an hour behind schedule, but lucky for us, we made great tome the rest of the day.  now we weren't in sparta to see the 300, in fact theres very little in sparta to do with the spartans, instead we were there to see the ancient city of mystras, which isnt really that ancient, but pretty cool nonetheless.  after walking around for a bit, we realized that a lot of these sites have been remodeled to the point where they no longer are ancient sites, but rather, old locations with remodeled facade.  we're not fans.

after mystras we head south to the manni peninsula and the caves of diros.  first we stopped off in the beautiful port town of gytheon for lunch.  the drive to the cave was pretty harrowing, and the boat ride throu the caves was magnificent, but the guy pushing the boat gave the tour in greek, so we were sol.  it was very pretty anyways.  after the cave we headed up the coastal road to kalamata.  now when they say coastal road, they were not lying.  it was beautiful, no doubt, but scary, james bond like, at the same time.  and now were at our hotel which is 7 km outside of town, so we're not really sure what we're going to do next.  tommorrow is ancient messian and maybe a trip to the town they filmed the new the new after midnight  movie.  then its on to olympia where the first olympics were held.
